Ahhhhhh…..

66 degrees, sunny, but the air is brisk and clear. I bask not in the summer breeze, but in the high altitude transition of winter to spring. Snow capped mountains with Coloradoan honey in running shorts. A great time to be on earth…

We are not the only ones enjoying an early departure from the death grip of winter. Bud break has already happened in areas of Sonoma, signaling the arrival of a new vintage. Love, and spring, is in the air! March can be an exciting month, and this particular one is more memorable than most. As we herald a rebirth in the vineyard and in our own backyard, we welcome the demise of the Great Recession. Joblessness is down, folks are buying more vino and dining out more, and people everywhere are feeling the tinge of optimism. Sheeeeeaaat. If things go this well the rest of the year, there may be hope for Snooki…

Wine over the last couple of years has enabled us to do a couple of (very much-needed) things: drank our proverbial sorrows away after our spouse, job, 401k, dog, and kids left us as we sang along (off-key and loudly) to our favorite country song; we reinvented the dinner party, had a bottle or three with old friends (taking advantage of deals on expensive wine in stores and on the internet), and remembered what, in the end, is most important; no, not that friends are irreplaceable and make life meaningful, we know that shit after watching romantic comedies with your better half. It’s that a 100 dollar bottle of wine that you got for 40 is bloody good…

I verily say to all y’all today (shout out to ma Texas peeps), drink your favorite wine today irregardless of price or age, because things are improving, that there is good in the world, and, as I said at the start of this post…this is a great time to be on earth. Hotties (male or female, whatever floats your boat) and a bottle of rose on someones’ patio at 4 in the afternoon. This is a time of celebration. Need I say more?

And, if it snows some more…two tears in a bucket, Ski season’s extended!
